Tesla surpasses 100,000 cars in Australia

There are now 100,000 Tesla electric cars on Australian roads – nearly half of which were delivered last year alone.

The US electric-car giant announced the milestone of «100k Tesla vehicles on the road in Australia» on social media on Thursday afternoon, nine years and four months after its first local vehicle delivery in July 2010.

More than half of those Teslas – close to 53,000 vehicles – have been reported as delivered between the start of 2023, and the end of February 2024, including about 46,000 last year.

It is estimated cumulative sales tally about 40,000 Model Y mid-size SUVs, an estimated 46,000 Model 3 mid-size sedans, and the remainder spread across Model S large sedans, Model X large SUVs and Roadster sports cars.

The milestone comes as Tesla prepares to stop reporting its monthly sales data to the car industry's VFACTS reports from July, after it ceased to be a member of the peak body for new-car makers in Australia, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

It's unclear if the car maker will continue to report monthly sales data through its own means.
