Colin Guilliatt was laid to rest in Grimsby after he died from a heart attack at his home in Brigg. His family travelled to his funeral in the same bus that Colin drove for 20 years.
Before becoming a bus driver, Colin worked for Granada TV in Scunthorpe and Lincoln and ATV Network at Elstree Studios in London. At ATV he was a television camera technician and lived in London for a few years until he returned to Lincolnshire to help care for his parents.
He met his wife, Maria while working in the studios and they married in 1977 and had two sons, Daniel and Steven.
Later, Colin learned to drive HGVs and particularly coaches. He obtained his coach licence with JR Dent’s coaches of Market Rasen and later worked for Hornsby Travel of Ashby.
He worked as a coach driver at Hornsby Travel up until his death. He did regular school runs at a number of schools in and around the Scunthorpe area. He was well liked by the children, teachers and other drivers.
He particularly loved flying, which was his passion, and he obtained both private and commercial pilot’s licences, as well as becoming a chief flying instructor and CAA flight examiner.
Colin was born at Staniwells Farm near Hibaldstow in 1942 and is survived by his wife Maria and sons Daniel and Steven. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Rosie, Samuel and Ruby.
Many friends and colleagues come forward since his death with amazing comments of respect stating that he was ‘a quiet gentleman with a wicked sense of humour’ and that he was a ‘true gentleman who will be truly missed’.”
A light aircraft flypast by the Frank Morgan School of Flying was conducted at the end of the funeral service, which was held at Woodlands Cramatorium in Scunthorpe.
