Bus collision in Bolivia leaves at least 22 dead, 37 injured

A head-on highway collision between two buses in Bolivia has killed at least 22 people and injured 37 others, Police confirmed.

The collision happened on Saturday on the road to Challapata, a town about 250 kilometers from the administrative capital of La Paz.

Police believe the accident was due to excessive speed and one of the buses may have driven into the oncoming lane.

Seriously injured passengers have been transferred to the nearest hospitals and authorities believe that the death toll may rise.

Deadly bus accidents are common in Bolivia’s highlands where narrow highways sometimes wind through mountain ranges near steep precipices.
