A woman believed to be in her 40s had a police officer to thank for saving her life after he jumped into the River Mersey to rescue her.
Emergency services were called after her car careened into the river near Rock Ferry pier, just off Bedford Road East before 7.30pm on Thursday, 12 September.
The Ambulance crew examined the woman at the scene before taken her to hospital for further assessment. She was then retained under the Mental Health Act.
There was fears that other people may have been in the vehicle which lead it to be searched despite it being fully submerged.
With uncertainty about any other potential occupants of the vehicle and with the vehicle now fully submerged, the police dive team were requested to attend with an underwater pole camera.
They made attempts to inspect the vehicle using the camera however underwater visibility made this impossible.
